Anime, short for Japanese animation. Not to be confused as a term for any type of drawing style that looks like it. It is our entertainment. It is our hobby. And yet how much do we truly know about it?
I've seen countless people come and chat in the chatango chat box place on my favourite website for viewing anime, Anilinkz. I give them what little knowledge I know of anime. I say little because there is just so many different Anime's in the world I could never possibly know everything about every one of them. Do I suggest anime? Only if I am in the mood and not busy with something else.
Japanese! Do I know the language? Do I speak the language? Sadly, I do not.
But unlike many of the people who's only interest in the language is purely based on being able to know what is being said in an anime without having to read the subs or being able to watch their favourite anime in RAW (Unsubbed format) because they're too impatient to wait for it to come out subbed or dubbed. I wish to know the language because it interests me. The symbols or characters in which it's written. The history behind them. Now most of this can be, and will most likely be viewed as boring. I believe that Japanese is more than just the language in which our Anime comes with, and of course comes from. But thats merely my reasoning to stand out from the sheep that have jumped onto the ban-waggon of the Anime craze.
What types of Anime interests me? Some may ask. Most (if not all) Anime is made to be appealing. Storyline, Plot etc. Some lack the general subject matter and use comedy to cover it up. Some are just plain crazy and hilarious to watch. I often like Anime that makes me laugh. For I like to laugh... and make people laugh. I would list types of Anime I know I like but I might miss one or change my mind about another. So I will say exactly what I tell people when they ask me about the music I like. "I like what I like, Hate what I don't".
Ah, hate. Such a strong word. Far overused even in the simplest things.
People speak out on how they hate this Anime or that it just "sucks". Rarely they give reasons to why they think that way or what have you. To put it in perspective saying an Anime sucks is like saying you hate a PC game purely because of the controls when you are given the option to change them to whatever you want. Totally different things, I am aware of that. But when it comes to Anime... you have to use a bit of discretion. Don't just go for whatever Anime you see thats ongoing because you want to watch something or because it's popular. If you don't feel like watching it then you will of course not like it. This may or may not be true in every aspect but generally speaking here it would. Do some research first, find out the storyline and a brief description about the first episode.
Now, about the first episode debate. "You can't tell how good an anime is from the first episode" That in its self is true. Some times you can... other times you cannot.
If the storyline grabs at your attention and holds you there saying "Hey you! Yeah you! Watch me!" then you know you should watch it till the end. Often it will be good until the end. Most endings aren't very good because you will feel that they ended it all too soon or it was a rush ending...etc etc. Either way after watching an anime that grabs your attention you will have reasons to why you like it or not. Besides the fact that it might have lost your attention with fillers or plot twists you find stupid or absurd.
To be Continued.
